Health Insurance Coverage

Use this subtask if an employee is ordered to provide insurance coverage through his employer’s health benefits.

You must specify the portion of the premium that pays for the cost of the children's medical coverage. Some states mandate that a the portion of the health insurance premium that covers the children can be withheld only if the employee has sufficient funds to cover 100% of the total medical insurance premium. So, using the example from above, if the employee’s wages for the pay period cannot cover the $300 premium, the employer cannot withhold for the medical support order.

Before you can use this subtask, you must:

  1. Set up the health insurance coverage deduction code on the Manage Deductions screen.
  2. Assign the deduction code to the employee on the Manage Employee Deductions screen.

Cost of Child Coverage

Enter the portion of the premium that pays for the cost of the children's medical coverage. For example, an employee has employee-only health insurance coverage at the cost of $100 per pay period. The employee receives a medical support order notice. The notice specifies that the employee must provide health care coverage for his two children. If the employer has a benefit plan that includes dependent coverage, the employee and employer must add the children onto the employee’s health coverage. This causes the employee’s insurance premium to increase from $100 to $300 per pay period. The cost of child medical coverage support is $200.

Must Deduct Entire Amount

Select this check box if the state requires that no money be withheld for medical support if the employee does not have sufficient wages to cover 100% of the Cost of Child Coverage.

So, using the example given in the text for the Cost of Child Coverage field, if the employee's wages for the pay period cannot cover the $300 premium, the employer cannot withhold for the medical support order.
